  • Usage Analytics: Basic, anonymized usage statistics to improve the extension (optional and can be disabled)
  • Error Reports: Crash reports and error logs to help us fix bugs (no code content included)

2. How We Use Your Information

Your code and project information is processed entirely on your local machine:

  • Code indexing happens locally within VSCode
  • File content is shared only through the MCP protocol when you explicitly reference files
  • No code is uploaded to our servers or third-party services
  • Analytics data is used solely to improve the extension's performance and features

3. Data Storage and Security

  • Local Storage: All code indexes and metadata are stored locally on your machine
  • No Cloud Storage: We do not store your code or project data on any remote servers
  • Secure Communication: MCP protocol communications are handled securely within your local environment
  • Data Encryption: Local data is encrypted using industry-standard methods

4. Third-Party Services

Chatrat may interact with:

  • VSCode Marketplace: For extension updates and installation
  • LLM Providers: When you choose to connect the MCP server to AI services (data sharing controlled by you)
  • Analytics Services: For anonymized usage statistics (can be opted out)

5. Your Rights and Controls

You have full control over your data:

  • Disable analytics collection in extension settings
  • Delete local indexes at any time
  • Control which files are indexed through .gitignore-style configuration
  • Disconnect from MCP server at any time

6. Data Retention

  • Local indexes are retained until you uninstall the extension or manually delete them
  • Analytics data is retained for 12 months maximum
  • Error logs are retained for 6 months for debugging purposes

7. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
